Our Rivers

We have 4 rivers. the Upper Chew, the Lower Chew, the Wellow and the Yeo. Unfortunately last year the Yeo was not stocked due advice given to us by the EA. However there has been really good news, the EA have now given the all clear for this water to be stocked again this year, which should be not to far in the distant future. We shall keep you updated.

Upper River Chew

Chew Magna reservoir provides excellent fly fishing for stocked Browns and Rainbow trout. Rainbows can be fished all year. The upper chew is a wild 1 1/2 mile stretch of water fed by the Mendip Hills. The waters have a terrific variety of fish, wild browns, migrating browns and rainbows as well as the fish we stock. Fishing strictly fly only.

The Wellow Brook

The Wellow Brook is some five miles South West of Bath and about five miles North East of Radstock. Our club rents four fields; the location and access are shown on your maps. Wellow itself is a very attractive village with a shop and pub (which serves good food and beer etc.) among other things.

The river is rather overgrown in places but there are some very good pools to fish. The method of fishing is "fly only" and there is a good head of wild brown trout. The river is very clear and the fish are easily spooked, so be very quiet and keep a low profile. I have found that the fish will readily take nymphs and dry flies; the fish fight well and you will find them a challenge.

The Lower River Chew

The lower chew is a more sedate 5 mile stretch of water flowing from Chew valley lake. The waters have a terrific variety of fish, wild browns and Grayling as well as the Brown and Rainbows we stock. Fishing is any method. .

The River Yeo

The river Yeo is a wild 1 1/2 mile stretch of water fed from Blagdon Lake. The waters have a terrific variety of fish, wild browns, migrating browns and rainbows as well as the fish we stock. Fishing is any method.
